Information

According to the survey report of "Global Packaging Industry Outlook 2011~2012: Industry Trends, Market Trends and Opportunities, Buyer Expenses and Purchasing Strategies" recently released by the market research organization ICD Research Institute, 59% of respondents believe that their companies are in The growth rate of operating income in the next 12 months will exceed that of the previous year. Packaging buyers are generally optimistic about the industry's development prospects in 2011. The main reasons are: the strong growth of emerging markets such as India and China, the reduction of global economic uncertainties, the innovation of sales models and the improvement of production efficiency. In addition, the report believes that under the influence of industry integration and sustainable development strategies, flexible packaging will become the fastest growing field in the packaging industry. In addition, the improvement of recycling technology and the birth of disposable packaging materials will help packaging companies to further increase profitability.

Packaging companies will expand and improve operating efficiency in 2011, launching new products and new services.

From this survey, the three major development goals of packaging companies in the future are: expanding the existing market, improving operating efficiency, and launching new products and services. These three points were supported by 74%, 71% and 68% of respondents respectively.

In addition, many companies hope to use existing places to increase product lines and expand factories. For example, Borealis, known for providing chemicals and innovative plastic solutions, has launched a new packaging film-BorShape.

According to the survey, the innovative packaging solutions that are expected to be launched before the end of 2011 mainly include: easy-peel packaging, easy-open sterile cartons, protective packaging, steam valves for dispersing different products, adhesives and shrink sleeve labels.

The three major hot spots are growing rapidly

Currently, the three fastest growing regions in the packaging industry are North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific.

The strict enforcement of the US government in the food and beverage industry has forced packaging suppliers to increase investment in research and development. At the same time, consumers' urgent demand for packaging materials for disposable beverage bottles has promoted the development of this market in Germany.

In addition, the sustained economic growth of the Asia-Pacific region has increased the demand for packaging in countries such as Singapore. India and China are also considered to be the packaging import markets with the most growth potential.    The

Mergers and acquisitions will further intensify

Executives of packaging buyer companies generally believe that business mergers will continue to increase in the coming year. This view was agreed by 49% of the respondents.

Affected by the increase in international crude oil prices, the profit pressure of packaging companies continues to increase, and the cost of raw materials is also rising. Therefore, they hope to reduce operating expenses or reduce production costs through mergers and acquisitions.

Price cost pressure is still the focus

Rising raw material prices, price pressures, and cost control are currently the top three concerns of the global packaging industry. With the continued turmoil in the oil market, the operating costs faced by companies are also increasing. Therefore, they need to adopt various methods to control costs, such as using intelligent technologies such as robots to improve production efficiency.

During the period from 2009 to 2010, 63% of packaging companies regarded rising raw material prices as their number one enemy, and 54% of respondents believed that their price pressures were too high.    Due to the continued high price of raw materials, many companies are looking for innovative solutions to reduce costs, such as the use of cheap and renewable packaging materials such as cardboard.

Taking Flint Group's European company as an example, due to the shortage of important raw materials and rising prices of basic chemicals, the company has been working hard to reduce the price of its inks, and packaging companies also hope to reduce their raw material costs through bulk purchases.

The procurement budget increased to 94 million U.S. dollars

In 2011, the average annual purchase budget of packaging buyers is expected to reach 94 million U.S. dollars, especially for companies with an annual budget of less than 10 million U.S. dollars and a significant increase of 500 to 500 billion U.S. dollars.

In view of the current fierce market competition environment, companies hope to open up markets for them through high-quality packaging. An industry survey conducted by the ICD Research Institute shows that the average purchase budget of packaging buyers is expected to increase by 9% in the next year, and 55% of respondents indicated that their budget will increase by 5% to 25%.

Quality, price and service are of the utmost importance

Quality, price and service level are the three magic weapons for packaging suppliers to participate in market competition. In addition, an enterprise's environmental record and social responsibility are also worthy of attention.   Similarly, packaging buyers also need to pay attention to three issues in the procurement process, namely reducing internal operating costs, looking for lower-priced resources, and working with selected packaging suppliers to cut costs.

Approximately 32% of the interviewed buyers indicated that they are willing to try the e-procurement method; 15% of the interviewees are evaluating and using this method; and 41% of the interviewees are unsure or unwilling to adopt this new method purchasing method.

51% of respondents believe that packaging suppliers should reduce prices and product innovation to win orders.

The improvement of customer service and the reduction of costs are crucial to packaging buyers. Packaging suppliers can help customers optimize production processes and reduce costs through technology research and development and the development of special IT solutions. For example, the cost-optimized packaging system developed by the Packaging Center of the Singapore Institute of Standards and Industry can reduce the distribution costs and logistics costs of packaging products by optimizing the use of space and packaging materials.
